Irish Baseball Podcast

One day while she was on her lunch break, Liz sent out a Tweet saying she wanted more women baseball fans to follow her on social media.  What happened next led to her creating a community of fans like her and had caused her to do more research into the ways baseball could better market to a large percentage of the fanbase.

Rick Becker, host of the Irish Baseball Podcast, talks with former New York Post baseball reporter Ken Davidoff who is one of the co-authors for "101 Lessons from the Dugout."  This book is designed to help young athletes see the benefits of competing in baseball and softball.

Mother Jones was born in Ireland.  Her efforts organizing labor groups in the United States made a big impact on workers' rights to the present day.  In "Kids on Strike!" author Susan Campbell Bartolletti covers an important crusade of Jones' when she marched with a group of child workers.  

Bill Barry has worked hard to commemorate the lives of the working-class people in Baltimore who started a labor movement that rippled through the United States in the late-19th Century.  Most of these railroad workers in Baltimore were Irish immigrants and Irish Americans.  Barry even got a special plaque placed in the shadow of one of the best ballparks in MLB.

Christopher Kline is making his second appearance on the Irish Baseball Podcast to talk about when a group of Irish veterans of the American Civil War decided to invade Canada.  The plan was a roundabout way to try to gain independence for Ireland.  

Mark Warren is an historian who used his knowledge of Billy the Kid's real life to write a fictional story about the legend of the Old West.  Billy the Kid was another key figure in American history with Irish roots.  Warren will talk about his book and the true historical figure of Billy the Kid.  He uses a novel to separate fact from fiction about this misunderstood character.
